English teaching jobs in Chiang Mai vary from public schools to language institutions, extending up to private one to one tuition. Language schools, Public schools, private International schools – all operate successfully in the city of Chiang Mai creating ample job opportunities for qualified and dedicated teaching professionals.
Community colleges, some universities, and small international schools offer another option for those with a teaching certificate and some experience

Chiang Mai features an unusually high concentration of international schools that cater to both local and foreign students living in the city looking for kindergarten, elementary, and secondary education. tend to recruit properly qualified people through overseas agencies.


Many schools are American-run and several are funded by Christian missionary organisations. Some of the more prominent names in the list are Prem Tinsulanonda International School, Grace International School, Chiang Mai International School, American Pacific International School (formerly Ake Panya International School), and Lanna International School.


The schools with international endorsement and foreign management generally assures a more favorable environment for effective teaching, providing decent course books and resources, placing the students at the right levels, monitoring the teacher’s performance and paying on time.


While language schools offer a better pay packet, the public schools entice with paid holidays. In terms of class sizes the state schools will often have up to 50 students in a class, but this can be lessened with the help of a Thai assistant in the classroom. Language schools usually have no more than 20 students to a class but often have longer lessons. More than a dozen language schools offer the best options and these vary in quality. Some teachers prefer voluntary or low paying jobs teaching underprivileged or refugee children (with a few perks), while others occasionally find positions in regular Thai schools (low salary).


Public schools are also more likely to help you with work permit and visa applications as their contracts tend to be fixed for twelve months, whereas many language schools have part-time or hourly contracts.
Proper perusal and patience can result in building up a network of private students as well.
