Brief of Bangkok
Bangkok happens to be the country's spiritual, cultural,
diplomatic, commercial and educational hub. Founded in 1782 by
the first monarch of the present Chakri dynasty, the country’s
capital is spread over an area of more than 1,500 square
kilometers, and is the home to approximately ten million people
or more than 10% of Thailand’s population.
Over the last few decades Bangkok has updated itself into a
modern city at par with world’s leading metropolitans combining
the ancient and the modern. Placed almost at the heart of
Thailand, Bangkok is dotted with 400 glittering Buddhist temples
of great beauty and fascination, magnificent palaces, classical
dance extravaganzas, numerous shopping centres and traditional
ways of life, especially along the "Venice of the East" timeless
canals and the Chao Phraya River of the "River of Kings" winding
through the city.
With
a boom in the English Language industry of Thailand, Bangkok is
awash with language schools both big and small. A native English
speaker is able to bag a suitable job within a week or two.
Currently, only top-notch institutions hire from abroad and the
best place to land a job is in the city itself. Almost every
issue of the Bangkok post carries at least two or three
advertisements for language teaching positions and even those
schools stipulating qualifications/experience necessary are
realistic enough to compromise if the applicant seems reliable
and smart. In the unlikely event of finding no leads in The
Bangkok post, one can check the yellow pages for addresses of
language schools and visit some on spec. The British Council (in
Siam square) will also supply a list of recognized language
schools in the area.
