Shopping  in Thailand

Thailand poses to be a paradise for the ardent shopper, with a mind boggling variety of merchandise on offer. You can shop for designer goods in the Malls, or browse for handicrafts and knick-knacks in the local markets. There is something for everyone, no matter how deep or shallow your pocket may be.


Departmental stores operates from 10:00 am till about 9:00 pm. Markets vary in their timing with produce markets opening before dawn and more general markets unfolding during daylight hours. However the most interesting are the Night Markets where you can sit in the open and eat before browsing the stalls.
In Bangkok, favorite purchases include Thai silk, cottons, modern and traditional jewellery featuring precious and semi-precious stones, silverware, nielloware, pewter ware, ceramics, celadon, woodcarvings, paintings, and clothing. Bangkok is one of the most competitively priced cities in Asia. Pleasant haggling in most stores and markets ensure favorable prices and service. Some of the leading shopping destinations are Suriwong / Silom Area, Phloenchit / Pathumwan Area, Sukhumvit Road Area, Bangrak Market, China Town and several others.
Chiang Mai is considerably the cheapest place to shop in Thailand with an extensive collection of unusual wares for knock down prices at the night bazaar. Crafts, silk, silverware, lacquer ware, carvings and beautiful paper umbrellas manufactured by the hill tribes can be found all over the city.

In Krabi, street vendors position themselves almost at every bend with commodities ranging from silk scarves, hammocks and sarongs to laser pens. It is always a thrilling and a gratifying experience for the bargain hunter

The beach city of Pattaya is abounding with shopping malls, super centres and shopping complexes all over, where bargaining can be fun.
